Dental Care for Chilren

Our practice is devoted to creating great first experiences in our dental office for our young patients. We truly believe that if we take a softer approach with our young patients we will be able to help instill positive memories rather than negative ones, ultimately encouraging long-lasting relationships with great oral health.

Our dentist and staff will always take the time to get to know your little one before we proceed with any treatment. We do this to build trust so we can show your child that a trip to see the dentist isn’t scary and can actually be fun.

We have various services available to put your children at ease. When you book an appointment with us, you have the opportunity to help yourself to our refreshment center with snacks and beverages; we have a kid’s play area, as well as Netflix and Bluetooth headsets for your child’s viewing pleasure while having work done in the dental chair.

Benefits of Dentistry for Kids

Teeth are a lifelong investment. Focusing on oral care from a young age can make all the difference in keeping your teeth healthy.

Starting good dental habits as soon as possible ensures your child has the best chance of a healthy, beautiful smile before and after their adult teeth grow in. We believe education is a vital component of children’s dentistry, and while we focus our efforts on kids, we also seek to educate parents. Through our insights, parents can learn how to encourage their child to keep up with their brushing and flossing routine, in addition to a yearly check-up with our dentists for kids.

We believe in creating trusting and lifelong relationships with our patients. This is best started at an early age so we can grow that trust and reduce concerns that could impact their oral and overall health. By bringing your child in for an appointment before their first birthday, and annually thereafter, your little one will know what to expect at their appointment, which can help set their mind at ease.

Depending on your child’s age and oral maturity, we can perform a range of services at their appointment, including but not limited to:

  • Fluoride treatments
  • Dental sealants
  • Teeth cleanings and dental exams
  • Space maintainers
  • Wisdom tooth assessment

As your child continues to grow, so does their teeth. Ensuring their teeth are coming in correctly can be aided by space maintainers to avoid overcrowding, and our dentists for kids can also assess if orthodontic treatment may be needed to correct overbites or misaligned jaws. Should this be the case, our clinic can provide a referral to an orthodontist. Of course, we’ll also deal with cavities and pay close attention to any potential oral health issues we might see.

Tips for Parents

There is so much you can do as a parent to ensure your child is ready for their visit to the dentist. One of the most important things is an encouraging and positive mindset.

Typically, the first visit can be nerve-wracking for your little one and may not go as planned. That is okay, and in the year until their next appointment, we recommend familiarizing your child with what they might expect the next time they visit us. Perhaps you’ll find an informative and fun YouTube video, choose one of their favourite TV shows that covers going to the dentist, or read a few picture books together that detail all they need to know. These messages can help explain things in terms they can understand, and leave the floor open for you to answer any further questions or concerns they might have.

Leading by example at home is a helpful way to ensure that your little one stays on track with their dental routine. Try making things fun with music, stickers, their favourite character, or colourful items like floss and toothbrushes. Set a timer so it’s done at the same time every day, and join in when you can so they can see how it’s done.

When it’s time to make your child’s next dentist appointment, try to pick a time of day that they are usually in a good mood. Perhaps it's early in the morning or right after lunch. We can accommodate your schedule and theirs as needed. We also recommend visiting the clinic beforehand, so your little one can feel comfortable in the space. We can even take them on a tour so they know where they will be going for their appointment when they arrive next.

If your little one is ready to visit our clinic for the first time, we welcome you to contact us so we can book you in for an appointment. Please visit our New Patients page and fill out the form so we can get to know your child a bit better and help them on their oral care journey!
