We’ve Got You Covered –
Literally!

Looking for safe, hassle-free smile fixes that will last a long time? Give the team at Costello Family Dentistry a call and ask about our dental implants. By combining experienced talent with custom-tailored solutions and the very best equipment for the job, we can help you achieve a more complete, beautiful and confidence-boosting smile.

Whether you’re fighting off cavities, need a new crown or otherwise, we’re happy to make it happen. Our dental restorations encompass a wide array of specialized services, each of which is geared towards improving specific aspects of your teeth. If you’re struggling to eat your favourite treats or want to avoid amalgam at all costs (we don’t blame you), you can count on us. The same applies to more intensive therapies that aim to protect your teeth from below the gum line, such as root canals.

SAFE TOOTH FILLING

Amalgam-Free Dental
Fillings

Ever heard of dental amalgam? It’s a mixture of metals used in low-quality fillings and usually consists of a mixture of tin, silver and copper alloy. Mercury is used to bind the particles together to form the filling. However, as many of us know, mercury is a known toxin. Dental amalgam using mercury releases low levels of it in a vapour form, which can lead to lung and kidney problems (among others).

Costello Family Dentistry has never used amalgam dental fillings, and we never will. Our amalgam-free alternatives often referred to as “white fillings” don’t carry any harmful materials. Plus, they blend beautifully to match the rest of your smile. As a result, you enjoy a natural-looking smile and no more cavity pain, all with zero risk of ingesting any nasty toxins. What’s more, our amalgam-free fillings are way stronger!

We consider that not only a win-win but also the right thing to do. You deserve the best!

RESTORE YOUR NATURAL SMILE

Porcelain Inlays and
Onlays

If you have several teeth missing or in need of the extraction of multiple teeth that are grouped together, a partial denture set is a better choice. They can be customized to perfectly match your remaining real teeth to achieve a natural look. In addition, they’re useful for avoiding crowding or shifting in the mouth once in place, and they should be put in and removed daily just like with full dentures. Partial dentures are different in that they depend on support from your real teeth. Our team works diligently to ensure you don’t encounter any discomfort or irritation as these sets can come in unique forms based on the shape of your mouth’s structure.

SAVING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE

Root Canal Therapy

Root canals are of critical importance if you suffer from a tooth infection. They are used to remove infected or decayed root pulp and ensure as much of the tooth as possible can be saved. Today’s root canal therapies, including ours, focus just as much on your comfort, safety, and peace of mind in addition to eliminating any risk of further tooth infection. If you do have an infection, it’s very important that you get it addressed by an experienced dental professional before it causes extensive damage – it can even affect your very well-being, to put it lightly. There’s a common misconception about the pain associated with root canals – in fact, the experience is similar to having a filling placed! If we need to perform a deep cleaning of the root, then don’t worry, anesthesia (laughing gas) is provided to ensure you don’t feel any pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Costello Family Dentistry, we receive a lot of questions about visiting us and the procedures we do. We invite you to review the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below, and encourage you to ask your dentist any questions you might have during your next appointment.

We do recommend coming for a check-up bi-annually to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. Some factors that negatively impact your mouth health include eating a lot of sugary and sticky foods, as well as smoking. If you have a history of cavities or gum disease these routine check-ups are vital to detect any problems before they worsen. In between visits, we encourage you to keep up with your dental care at home by brushing properly twice daily and flossing at least once a day.
We know you try to keep your mouth and gums as healthy as they can be. But sometimes underlying issues can be left unchecked and become bigger problems. Some signs it’s time to schedule a dentist appointment are tooth sensitivity, jaw pain, swollen and/or bleeding gums, as well as if you have bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth.
Studies have shown teeth whitening is a perfectly safe process when done in moderation. We offer a professional take-home teeth whitening kit available to our patients after they have completed a full examination, X-rays and teeth cleaning. Some restrictions apply, please contact us for more details.
Absolutely! We block emergency time in our schedule on a daily basis in order to accommodate our patients for a same-day emergency appointment. These appointments are given on a first come, first served basis and are treated as a triage appointment. The dentist will examine the specific area of concern, provide the patient with pain medication or a prescription for antibiotics if required and schedule you back for treatment.
It is important your child comes to see us after their first tooth grows in, sometime between the age of six months to one year. This appointment will help to get your child used to visiting the dentist and reduce their anxiety when it comes to further visits. We can also educate you on how to best care for your baby’s teeth.
Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that usually grow in your late teens and early twenties. In the right position, they can help your mouth, but commonly they are misaligned and need to be removed. An X-ray will accurately show the arrangement of these teeth, and depending on the stage they’re in your dentist might recommend removal, which is a procedure we can perform right in our clinic.
Yes, we do. Sedation dentistry is ideal for patients who have serious anxiety about visiting the dentist, or for procedures that have been long overdue. Our Carleton Place dental clinic will use nitrous sedation to help patients feel more relaxed during these services.
